Protect our children and families!
I urge you to vote NO on any government filter bill this legislative session.
Ultimately families and parents are the best to determine what their children should or should not have access to. Families, not tech companies, should be the ones making decisions about what our kids have access to. Previous bills have required technology companies to monitor and filter everything that comes through devices, taking parental control out of the hands of parents. Neither these companies nor the government are best positioned to mandate parents on how to protect their children.
Additionally, Apple and Google both have robust family control systems already in place that allow parents to not only decide what their kids see on the internet but what apps they can have – and more. Bills like these would unfortunately do the opposite of its intent and give families a false sense of security, as it ignores several popular devices and sites that children actually access content on, including:
· Devices not on a cellular network
· Tablets specifically designed for kids
· Internet accessed through TV
· Desktops or laptops
· Gaming systems
· Cell phone apps
They would also force individuals to share personally identifiable information, which in turn creates major privacy and security concerns.
Keeping our children safe is of the utmost of importance, and we believe that parents, not the government or tech companies, are the best equipped to.
Thank you for voting NO on any government filter bill.
