Commit to no more tax increases for Illinoisans and support House Resolution 95!

I hope this letter finds you well. I write as a concerned Illinoisan regarding our ever-increasing tax burden. Since Governor JB Pritzker took office, there have been over 20 new or increased taxes. These changes have strained families, homeowners, and entrepreneurs across the state. 

Tax revenues have skyrocketed. From FY 2019 to FY 2024, state tax revenues have increased from $48B to $67.5B – a 41% increase. 

Despite the massive increase in tax revenue, Gov. Pritzker projects a $3.2B budget deficit for FY 2026, on the backdrop of massive new requests from public employee unions to sweeten pension benefits that is projected to cost Illinoisans over $30B more over the next 20 years.  

A recent WalletHub study shows Illinois has the highest combined state and local tax burden (16.51%). Beyond that, our various taxes consistently place us at or near the top nationwide. Below is a snapshot of key tax rates: 

Raising taxes yet again would worsen these burdens and risk further driving away residents and businesses away from Illinois and harming those that remain.  

I urge you to oppose any new or increased tax measures this year. Instead, please prioritize responsible fiscal solutions—reducing unnecessary spending, protecting core services, and promoting policies that foster growth and job creation. 

I ask you to commit to vote to not vote for tax increases to balance budgets in the 104th General Assembly, by co-sponsor HR 95 and work to introduce similar measures in the Illinois Senate.
