Signed into law in 2024, the Georgia Promise Scholarship program empowers eligible students to use public funds for tuition, textbooks, tutoring, and other educational expenses.
For the 2025-2026 school year, the scholarship will provide up to $6,500 per student, offering families the flexibility to choose the best educational path for their children. This scholarship is especially vital for families in lower-performing school zones, helping students access quality educational alternatives.
However, the proposed house budget allocates just $45 million to the Georgia Promise Scholarship—almost $100 million short of the $141 million needed to fully support the program. Without this critical funding, many families will miss out on this opportunity to provide a better educational future for their children.
By fully funding the Georgia Promise Scholarship, we can ensure more children, especially those from low-income households, receive the support they need to succeed academically. It also empowers parents with greater control over their children's education, leading to better long-term outcomes.
I urge you to prioritize the full $141 million funding for this program. Investing in education today will foster a well-educated workforce for tomorrow.
