Kansans cannot afford higher utility rates. Our state needs competition to keep prices down. Increasing electricity costs are already a burden on Kansas homeowners, businesses and industries. In fact, data shows that Kansas electricity rates are the second highest in the region!
Kansas simply can’t afford to pass legislation granting
some utility companies a right of first refusal (ROFR) on electric transmission
projects. Electricity customers have already seen their rates increase by double digits in the past year. With hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars in new transmission projects in our region in the coming years, competition to develop these lines will lower costs, improve innovation and support reliability. Kansas must maintain the right to competition for these projects and not turn over its rights to monopoly utilities.
