Utah Taxpayers Shouldn't Be Subsidizing the Activities of Third-Party Labor Organizations
As a constituent and Utah taxpayer I ask that you vote in favor of HB 285. I support this bill for multiple reasons.
1. Requiring periodic recertification gives employees an opportunity to decide if the representation they're getting from their union is what they want, or if it's time for something new. All unions should be held accountable this way.
2. Ending automatic government dues deduction on behalf of these unions ensures taxpayer resources are not being used for things that have nothing to do with the proper function of government.
3. This bill ensures that Utah's public servants can leave union membership and dues payments freely at any time.
4. This levels the playing field for all unions and organizations, and ends the practice of Utah subsidizing the activities of labor organizations. Government unions are private entities that negotiate and perform duties for their members, not for taxpayers in general.
Again, please vote in favor of HB 285 for these reasons.
