I’m writing to express my deep disappointment in Governor DeWine’s recent vetoes of key education provisions in the state budget—particularly those related to Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) and expanded school choice.
These vetoes represent a significant setback for Ohio families seeking more control over their children’s education. The ESA program would have empowered parents to invest in educational services that best meet their children’s unique needs, including tuition for non-chartered, nonpublic schools. By rejecting this initiative, the Governor has denied thousands of families the opportunity to pursue alternatives that align with their values and aspirations.
Ohioans deserve educational freedom. We deserve a system that recognizes that one size does not fit all. The ESA proposal was a bold step toward equity and innovation in education, and its removal is a disservice to the very families our state leaders are elected to serve.
I urge you to stand with your constituents and support a legislative override of these vetoes. The General Assembly has the power—and the responsibility—to ensure that Ohio families are not left behind. Please act swiftly and decisively to restore these vital provisions.
Thank you for your service and your commitment to Ohio’s future.
