We need an all-of-the-above border security strategy.
Tell Washington: It's Time to Secure Our Border
Right now, there is a crisis at our border, and it's long past time for Washington to take real action to address it. The President must put politics aside and work with Congress to take emergency steps to restore the rule of law at our border and fix our immigration system.
Border security efforts should allow our federal government to focus on establishing safety, security, and order by defending us from those that present risks to national security and our rule of law.
This should include, but is not limited to, upgrades in infrastructure and technology, an increase in personnel, asylum reforms, and strategically placed barriers.
We believe that addressing the problems caused by our outdated, broken immigration system requires enhancing border security. It is important that we detect and apprehend people crossing unlawfully.
We need an all of the above border-security strategy:
- Barriers in strategic locations, modernized technology and infrastructure, and increases in and retention of personnel.
- Facilitating opportunities to apply for protection outside the US to reduce pressure at the border.
- Hiring more immigration judges and asylum officers, and instituting last-in-first-out during migration surges to ensure timely and proper consideration of asylum claims, while dissuading weak or frivolous claims.
- Increasing legal pathways and streamlining existing ones so migrants have more options than applying for asylum.
Our country can't afford further inaction from Washington. The President has been woefully absent from this vital issue, and he simply can't ignore it any longer. It's time for him to finally work with Congress to secure our border and fix our broken immigration system.
