Wisconsin families have already been hit with more than $2 billion in approved rate hikes since 2019, and now utilities want roughly another $645 million over the next two years.

We Energies and WPS are asking Wisconsin regulators to approve another round of rate increases: ~16% for We Energies customers and ~15% for WPS customers by 2028.

For consumers, that means about $22 more per month, or $262 more per year, for a typical We Energies residential customer and about $16 more per month, or $192 more per year, for a typical WPS residential customer by 2028. Families, seniors, and businesses should not be forced to pay more every month for aging plants that no longer generate power and the new projects replacing them at the same time.

Option 1 — Short and direct: I am asking the Wisconsin Public Service Commission to reject the proposed rate increases in dockets 5-UR-112 and 6690-UR-129. Wisconsin families are already paying too much for utilities, and another double-digit increase would make monthly bills even harder to afford. Please put ratepayers first and say no to these rate hikes.

Option 2 — Household budget focus: As a Wisconsin ratepayer, I am concerned about the impact these proposed increases would have on household budgets. We Energies customers could see about $22 more per month and WPS customers could see about $16 more per month by 2028. Families should not be asked to absorb another major increase, especially after repeated rate hikes in recent years. I urge the PSC to reject these proposals and protect ratepayers.

Option 3 — Accountability focus: The PSC should not approve another rate increase without putting Wisconsin families and small businesses first. Since 2019, Wisconsin ratepayers have faced more than $2 billion in approved rate hikes, and these new proposals would add even more pressure. Please reject the proposed increases in dockets 5-UR-112 and 6690-UR-129.

Option 4 — Reliability and affordability focus: Wisconsin needs reliable energy, but when will you begin to consider affordability. Ratepayers should not be forced to pay more and more every year while also covering costs tied to retired plants and new replacement projects. The PSC should demand a better path that keeps the lights on without putting an unfair burden on families, seniors, and small businesses. Please reject these proposed rate hikes.

Option 5 — Personal impact: I oppose the proposed We Energies and WPS rate increases because higher utility bills affect real families and communities across Wisconsin. Every extra dollar spent on utilities is money that cannot go toward groceries, gas, rent, mortgage payments, or other necessities. I respectfully ask the PSC to reject these increases and put Wisconsin ratepayers ahead of utility profits.
